Quotations I, II, III
2019
Picture
[Performance to video for Instagram]
Sharing its title, this triptych takes Quotations I, II, II (2018) as a choreographic score for a series of 63 short performance to video for Instagram clips. Read from the aforementioned work, the hand gestures are secondhand references, playfully performed in silence. Again, the three groups from which the original gestures are derived (emojis; religious paintings and icons; Instagram posts containing food) become muddled; having been removed from their original context and made monochromatic. As the specific sources become less distinguishable, so too do the specific connotations of each - their meaning travelling between images by osmosis.
